An initial wind feasibility study for Boots UK Limited headquarters in central Nottingham.
| Date: | March 2007 |
| Technology: | Large Wind |
| Capacity: | 2 x 900kW |
| Scope of works: | Feasibility |
Objective:
The aim of the works was to investigate the potential of installing 2 x 900kW wind turbines upon the central headquarters site for Boots UK Limited in Nottingham. The proposed turbines would stand out as a feature along the local skyline and reflect boots commitment to using sustainable energy resources and to corporate it’s social responsibility agenda.
Outcome:
This particular site showed a low wind speed so concerns were raised early on about the feasibility of a wind turbine. This was addressed by the installation of a sodar machine to determine an accurate wind speed for the area and the overall feasibility of installing wind turbines at this location. The outcome from the data collected confirmed that the project was in fact viable.
The client was then advised to reduce to 2 x 750kW wind turbines to fit within the future higher feed-in-tariff band. ICE Renewables continue to work with Boots.
